Located in a small village outside the town of Kiningi, Amakoro Songa Lodge is named after the black volcanic rocks that characterise this beautiful mountainous part of Rwanda. With the volcanoes of Muhabura, Gahinga and Sabinyo providing the backdrop, the lodge is situated on a seven-acre plot with manicured lawns.

The eight cottages are equipped with fireplaces, with the décor mixing local and modern furniture to create a warm and comfortable space to relax before and after gorilla trekking. The main area has a lounge and both an indoor and outdoor fireplace where in the evenings you can watch the traditional Intore Dance Troop perform. While gorilla trekking is the main event, there’s plenty more to see and do including community visits to the villages surrounding the lodge, hiking, cycling and birdwatching.
