Local culture
There are crystal pools that you can only get to by boat, and Jesuit ruins to discover. There are few better people to introduce you to this spectacular forest than the local Guarani people. Spend time with them listening to their stories and learning about their history and traditional crafts.
Community & Culture
Awasi’s properties are located in three of South America’s most unique environments and they are committed to protecting their natural and cultural heritage through the conservation of their ecosystems, the reintroduction of native species and the implementation of concrete social initiatives.
In Iguazú, Awasi support local Guaraní communities by offering a series of collaborations which run throughout the year and include private visits to their community the most skilled artisans of the community giving basketry demonstrations. Additionally, they fund a weekly art workshop at their local school which previously lacked an art teacher for the children. During these workshops, we arrange for a range of artists to participate (illustrators, theatre teachers and more) to give the children tools for self-expression.
Conservation
Awasi’s efforts in Iguazú are focused on protecting and conserving this valuable rainforest ecosystem by donating to and collaborating directly with local entities which work in the protection, rehabilitation and reintroduction of native animals. They also protect natural areas by helping monitor and track local species, and by helping the authorities keep hunters and poachers at bay.
Footprint
Awasi prides itself on being carbon neutral. The 340 hectares of native woodland that they protect in Iguazú and Patagonia absorb over 10,000 tonnes of CO2 each year. That amount is more than the total of emissions generated by the three lodges.
They have implemented a waste management process which reduces waste whilst maximising reuse and recycling. Furthermore, as members of Relais & Chateaux, Awasi commits to guidelines to reduce food footprint and only serve seasonal, ethically-sourced cuisine.
