Capella Ubud

Overview

A tented sanctuary

Capella Ubud, conceptualised by architect Bill Bensley, was inspired by the early European settlers of the 1800s with a design that celebrates the spirit of adventure.

You’ll find the tented camp tucked away between lush rainforest and rice paddy fields. Located near the sacred Wos River, in the Balinese artist village of Keliki, Capella Ubud offers you a hidden sanctuary where you can soak up the pristine natural beauty of Ubud in comfort.

The 23 tents are all individually styled, hinting at life in the early 1800s. Each tells the story of a different character who could have lived in Bali all those years ago. They include modern conveniences, private pools and large outdoor decks.

The dramatic terraced landscape is ideal for outdoor exploits like rice paddy trekking, jungle boot camps and biking through villages.

One of the highlights of your time at Capella Ubud is almost certainly going to be the culinary experiences. You’ll be treated to an array of Indonesian favourites prepared with fresh local ingredients, or go on a course-by-course journey with the chef showcasing the best of Bali.

The camp is also a celebration of the arts with antique artifacts, paintings, drawings and furniture all paying homage to Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage and local craftsmanship.

Community & Culture

Capella Ubud has positioned itself as a custodian of the community and mentors the local youth by offering three months of English classes in exchange for returning discarded plastic bottles. The proceeds from that recycling go back into other educational initiatives. A weekly cleaning campaign sees the area around the camp kept clean and protected.

Footprint

In constructing the camp no trees were cut and none of the landscape’s existing contours were altered. Capella Ubud has an onsite organic garden, crayfish farm, and beehives – in addition to the garden being used for food preparation within the camp.
