A palatial city retreat
The Dwarika’s Kathmandu is the city’s finest hotel, a welcome retreat from the bustle outside.
A passion project inspired by the architectural grandeur of Newari royal palaces, it incorporates the founder’s collection of architectural artefacts dating back to the 13th century which he rescued over decades from across Nepal, winning heritage awards in the process.
In the elegant buildings set around a courtyard, 83 rooms rooms are a celebration of Nepalese craftsmanship melding old and new that also makes for an utterly charming stay.
Modern comforts include an outdoor pool and impressive spa along with a bar and three restaurants serving Nepali, international and Japanese cuisine.

Community & Culture
In line with the hotel’s commitment to the restoration and conservation of the cultural and architectural heritage, they actively support the livelihood of various artisans. They aim to give back to both guests and to Nepal on the whole. This appreciation for culture and local artisans is something they hope to inspire other hotels and people to pick up as well.
Conservation
When Dwarika Das Shrestha established the hotel in 1977 one of the main aims was to help preserve the Newari culture and architecture. Here you’ll find a deep respect for Nepal’s cultural and natural heritage. Throughout the property there are wood carvings, terracotta work and handcrafted artworks.
Footprint
The Dwarika’s group is working towards a zero-waste, organic lifestyle. They generate as much of their electricity through solar power as they can, and they store rainwater to use in the washrooms and gardens once it has been filtered. Food waste is also being minimized. One of the most pressing aims is to limit their use of plastic bottles.
