    Mokoro excursions

Explore the shallow waters of the Okavango in a mokoro, a dug-out canoe, maneuvered by an experienced poler. As you slip quietly along the waterways you’re treated to a unique view of the area. While they are usually planned for the mornings, you can arrange a longer day trip.

Community & Culture

Machaba Safaris, owners of Gomoti Plains, are committed to uplifting local communities utilising education and empowerment through involvement with various education programmes and schools where they operate. In Botswana, they they provide valuable work experience to promising young local men and women through internships and by employing local university business graduate students to equip them with the necessary experience to become lodge managers.

Conservation

Machaba work together with local stakeholders and communities to protect and conserve the fragile and highly precious ecosystems in southern Africa. This includes fostering a culture of human-wildlife coexistence through both educational programmes and human-wildlife conflict mitigation through the erection of animal-proof fencing. Gomoti Plains also helps provide support to anti-poaching patrols in the NG32 zone.

Footprint

Fully committed to reducing their impact on the environment, Gomoti Plains consciously forgoes certain conveniences, like hairdryers and air-con. Camp electricity is a hybrid of solar power and a back-up generator, and the appliances they do have on site are low energy-consuming. The hot water supply is generated by a thermodynamic solar energy system which means that no matter the weather, there’s always hot water available. The camp has been built with no permanent fixtures, so that if it is moved, the area can be rehabilitated within a year and a half. The kitchen, laundry and staff village waste is handled by separate Bio Plants.
