Overview
A timeless Delta safari
At Gomoti Plains you’ll discover a blend of a timeless experience of an Okavango canvas camp, modern luxuries and future-thinking eco-awareness.
Set in a community concession beside the Gomoti River system southeast of the Okavango Delta, the camp boasts 10 comfortable canvas tents including for families. All of the tents have en suite bathroom facilities. Cool off in plunge pools and enjoy sundowners and meals in the communal bar and dining areas. If you’re looking for a little solitude, settle into a quiet reading nook between safari excursions.
Gomoti's private concession has a classic mosaic of Delta landscapes of river channels, forests and plains hosting a great diversity of wildlife which you can explore on day and night game drives, mokoro canoe excursions and motor boat trips.

Game drives
Set out for morning and late afternoon game drives along the river systems and floodplains around the camp. You have excellent chances of seeing large predators, elephants, buffalos and plains game. Spotlights in night drives will help you spot some of the smaller creatures.
-
Game walks
Together with an armed guide you can head out on leisurely walking safaris in the mornings. Take your time to see some of the smaller details you’d miss in a vehicle. These walks are weather and terrain dependent. Bird watching is also a fantastic way to spend a few hours in the bush.
-
Mokoro excursions
Explore the shallow waters of the Okavango in a mokoro, a dug-out canoe, maneuvered by an experienced poler. As you slip quietly along the waterways you’re treated to a unique view of the area. While they are usually planned for the mornings, you can arrange a longer day trip.
Community & Culture
Machaba Safaris, owners of Gomoti Plains, are committed to uplifting local communities utilising education and empowerment through involvement with various education programmes and schools where they operate. In Botswana, they they provide valuable work experience to promising young local men and women through internships and by employing local university business graduate students to equip them with the necessary experience to become lodge managers.
Conservation
Machaba work together with local stakeholders and communities to protect and conserve the fragile and highly precious ecosystems in southern Africa. This includes fostering a culture of human-wildlife coexistence through both educational programmes and human-wildlife conflict mitigation through the erection of animal-proof fencing. Gomoti Plains also helps provide support to anti-poaching patrols in the NG32 zone.
Footprint
Fully committed to reducing their impact on the environment, Gomoti Plains consciously forgoes certain conveniences, like hairdryers and air-con. Camp electricity is a hybrid of solar power and a back-up generator, and the appliances they do have on site are low energy-consuming. The hot water supply is generated by a thermodynamic solar energy system which means that no matter the weather, there’s always hot water available. The camp has been built with no permanent fixtures, so that if it is moved, the area can be rehabilitated within a year and a half. The kitchen, laundry and staff village waste is handled by separate Bio Plants.
