Overview
Cutting edge sustainability
Amidst Laikipia’s savanna grasslands, home to the second-highest density of wildlife in Kenya, Segera looks out proudly over Mount Kenya. This pioneering lodge plays a huge part in the world of sustainability with many initiatives that lead the way within the industry.
Within the 20,000 hectare reserve are six luxurious villas and a two-bedroom house, perfectly poised perfectly to showcase the flora and fauna surrounding them. Naturally luxurious and unique, the camp provides a relaxing contract to the great migration. Spend your day exploring the many pieces of unique artwork from The Zeitz Collection or lounge by the pool.
One of Segera’s most unique offerings is the Nay Palad Bird’s Nest, offering guests the opportunity to sleep under the stars and listen to the noise of the savanna at night. From your birds-eye-view nest, watch the sun rise over a delicious picnic breakfast.
Segera is the perfect example of how luxury and sustainability are synonymous. Spend time exploring the 'Four Cs' centre to learn more about how their work and your stay, contributes to local communities and conservation efforts.

Community & Culture
Segera is one of the founding Long Run destinations and is truly committed to sustainability. They believe that conservation should be synonymous with local communities and, as such, has set up a farming demonstration for local primary schools to showcase sustainable farming. Their ‘citizen science’ approach seeks to bridge gaps between technologies that are available in local communities and technological advancements. The scheme empowers local communities to experiment, explore and manage the constraints under which they work.
In addition, Segera has established a bursary scheme, 40 per year, which is focused on enhancing the quality of education in the surrounding area.
Conservation
Segera, spearheads a number of initiatives, the most prestigious being Conservation Unit Rangers. The CURs receive continuous specialised training to tackle invasive species control, habitat monitoring and much more. Through these efforts, Segera have recorded new births of Grevy’s zebra and patas monkey.
Footprint
Every aspect of the retreat has a light footprint. Building materials are natural and the rooms are powered by solar power. In addition, Segera distills their own still and sparkling water and all grey water is recycled or composted in the organic gardens.
