Low key luxury
Sat on the secluded shores of a warm turquoise lagoon of the Nhamabue Peninsula in Southern Mozambique, Sussurro is a mindful, immersive spot with community and sustainability at its core.
There are beautifully designed thatch and stone bungalows built using only locally sourced materials with waterfront verandas leading through to the bedroom and on to private walled gardens with a bath and shower. Rooms are dressed with furniture created and carved onsite and thoughtfully collected artisanal pieces from sub-Saharan Africa.
In the shared area, find a swimming pool, bar, yoga deck and a relaxed dining space that celebrates fresh local, organic, and sustainable produce.

Dhow cruises
Set sail on one of Sussurro’s traditional Mozambican dhow, drifting through waterways flanked by floating forests and small fishing villages before venturing out on the warm Indian ocean wind and experience an East African brunch on a deserted island.

Community & Culture
Sussurro looks to engage with the local community in a reciprocal manner that is non-intrusive while spreading the benefits. Community built and staffed, the lodge is 100% African sourced and made, from the furniture and roof thatch to sourcing food from sustainable artisanal fishers and local farms.
Conservation
The lodge is keenly invested in mangrove reforestation. Mangroves are a huge asset to local areas for flood and storm-surge protection, as well as being a hugely important ecosystem for biodiversity and an important carbon sink.
Footprint
The entire lodge was built with sustainability in mind and is powered by renewable energy. Products are organic wherever possible and there are zero single-use plastics. Sussurro plans to enable each guest to physically offset the emissions of their trip through the reforestation of the Nhamabwe salt pan, restoring indigenous mangroves as a carbon sink from their nursery by 2022.
