Overview
A contemporary Cape Town icon
The Silo is a celebration of style, architecture and design that towers above the V&A Waterfront. Thomas Heatherwick’s unique spin on the former grain silo offers panoramic views of the Atlantic on one side and Table Mountain on the other. Below is the Zeitz MOCAA, home to the largest collection of contemporary African art in the world.
The art continues in The Silo with each of the 28 rooms, including a magnificent penthouse suite, individually designed with stylish interiors to compliment the views. Soak up some sunshine and take in the breathtaking views from the rooftop pool bar or enjoy the exquisite dining at the restaurant. If you fancy going further afield, the hotel is located on the V&A Waterfront – perfect for an evening of shopping or late-night dining.
Your stay here supports The Royal Portfolio, who live and breathe for the communities and environment that they are in. Therefore, you will be contributing to many incredible organizations, NGO’s and conservation projects, which guests have the opportunity to be involved with during their time in each location.

Community & Culture
The Silo and Royal Portfolio take a great deal of time in nurturing relationships within their communities, supporting projects such as Leliebloem, a non-profit Child & Youth Care Centre serves as a home-away-from-home for over 60 children from troubled families, The Friends of Child Protection (FCP), founded by a group of Cape Town women wanting to assist children that are victims of abuse and a food kitchen, Ladles of Love, which has served up millions of meals to those in need.
Conservation
The Silo, as a property in the coastal region of South Africa supports the South African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds (SANCOB) whose primary objective is to reverse the decline of seabird populations through the rescue, rehabilitation and release of ill, injured, abandoned and oiled seabirds – especially endangered species like the African penguin. Since 1968, SANCOB has had cared for over 100,000 seabirds admitted, treated 54 different bird species and reared thousands of penguin chicks.
Footprint
To insure as little impact on their surrounds as possible, they use energy-saving light bulbs, water-saving showerheads and restrictors. The plants found in the property are mainly succulents which require minimal watering. Double glazed windows throughout the hotel means we use less energy for insulation and the air conditioning system utilizes the central sea water cooling plant, reducing energy and water consumption.
