Overview
Bahian chic
Bounded by thick jungle on three sides and the Atlantic on the fourth, Trancoso was an isolated fishing town for centuries before its 'discovery’ by hippies and artists in the 1970s.
Still quietly cool, its most stylish stay is UXUA, an exclusive yet laid back collection of ten private casas and a sumptuous spa right in the historic quadrado.
Half of the hotel’s casas date back centuries and have been carefully restored using traditional techniques and reclaimed materials by designer and owner Wilbert Das and a team of local artisans. All have their own character intertwined with contemporary luxuries.
Explore the town, relax by the chic beach lounge, treat yourself at Vida Spa and Lab, and tuck into excellent meals at the open kitchen.
The village itself, surrounded by lush rainforest and idyllic beaches, has changed little in the past few centuries. At Uxua you can enjoy the remoteness as well as relax knowing one of the hotel’s most pressing aims is to remain an industry leader in sustainable tourism.

Community & Culture
Part of what makes Uxua so special is its position, right at the heart of a historic community and the warm welcome you receive from the people of Trancoso. The team partners with their neighbours on various local social projects. The people here respect tradition as well as nature, both of which they remain mindful of even as the town grows and modernity spreads. Many of the local youth recognize the challenges that brings and are passionate about protecting the village’s heritage so that they too will benefit from the quality of life Trancoso is known for.
Uxua, together with NGO Despertar, have established eco-education initiative where students learn about basic ecology and how to identify threats to the environment and appropriate ways to respond. The programme sees artists, designers, performing artists and writers getting involved as guest lecturers.
