Cape Horn Cruise

Ventus Australis

Overview

Round the horn

Ventus Australis is a small expedition cruise ship built in 2017, specially designed to access the most remote corners of the Strait of Magellan where Patagonia and the Andes tail end and the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans meet.

The vessel can host a maximum of 200 passengers in 100 en suite cabins, all simple but comfortable with exterior windows and individually controlled. Shared areas include lounges, library, bar and gourmet restaurant.

Cruising between Ushuaia in Argentina and and Punta Arenas in Chile, there will be excursions to suit all abilities and adventure levels. Discover Tierra del Fuego with exciting Zodiac boat rides and shore excursions, exploring mighty glaciers, national parks, forests and epic fjords. Wildlife encounters can include elephant and leopard seals, whales, Andean condors, thousands of penguins and scores of other bird species.

Conservation

Australis adheres to the national and international covenants on environmental care and protection, conservation of cultural and natural patrimony, and the sustainable development of tourism activities.

A scientific and tourism cooperation covenant was signed with CEQUA (Center of Quaternary Studies Fuego-Patagonia and Antarctica) for the development of top level sustainable scientific tourism which provides information from its direct source to the tourists, who will have the opportunity to take part in and see the procedures of scientific expeditions that are carried out on cruise ship journeys. The agreement also established the contributions that the Australis Expedition Team can make to CEQUA with photographs of glaciers, marine and land mammals, and measurements of water temperature in zones of glaciers for their scientific analysis.

Footprint

Our ships have treatment systems for sewage, gray water, and organic waste, established by the SOLAS Standard (Marpol).
