Tucked into Stone Town’s seafront, between the sultan's palaces, Portuguese forts, bustling bazaars and dhow sails, the Zanzibar Serena Hotel is a characterful place found taking up residence in two historic buildings.
Its 51 rooms and suites blend Zanzibar’s Arab and Swahili heritage with restored original features, handsome wooden furniture and cool white walls with either breezy ocean-overlooking balconies or palm garden views.
There’s a restaurant on the terrace serving freshly caught seafood with fabulous sunset views, while Swahili banquets can be enjoyed by the pool at Baharia Restaurant.

Serena Hotels procurement strategy thrives through local sourcing. They encourage and promote local community-based suppliers and eco-friendly products - fresh ingredients are purchased from local farmers and companies that support small scale producers and disadvantaged groups.
Training is offered to local entrepreneurs on how to strengthen their business skills, record keeping, setting up a bank account and how to acquire working capital to bridge credit periods. Suppliers are also encouraged to reduce packaging or package in recyclable/biodegradable material and comply with international human rights and labour standards.
All the entrepreneurial opportunities are geared towards empowering local communities to benefit sustainable income, food security and improved health and nutrition to more households thus improving the quality of life.
