Overview
Experience Nepal's wildest national parks
Head to the jungles and plains of Nepal’s south in search of iconic wildlife, getting an insight into the country’s rich history and culture as you explore two diverse national parks on safari.
Begin with two nights in the colourful bustle of Kathmandu, with a full-day private tour to introduce to the city, its people and sacred sites. Then fly south to the iconic Chitwan, a beautiful park that is home to an abundance of species, and the rarely visited Bardia National Park, with two wonderfully relaxed nights at a lodge in the mountains outside Pokhara in between for an immersion into rural Nepali life.
In both parks, discover the landscape on an engaging mix of activities, from game drives and elephant walks to village visits and boat trips. Alongside expert naturalist guides, spot Nepal’s most iconic species, such as leopards, Asian elephants, greater one-horned rhinoceroses, gharial crocodiles, river dolphins, sloth bears, monkeys, hundreds of bird species and, of course, the majestic Bengal tiger.

Days 1 — 3
An introduction to Kathmandu
You’ll be met on arrival in Kathmandu and taken to Dwarika’s Hotel, an oasis in the heart of the city. For your full day here, a guide and a car are on hand to show you around this fascinating city of centuries-old temples, colour and modern energy, with highlights including the sacred Hindu Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa and bustling Durbar Square.
Days 3 — 6
Chitwan National Park
Take a short flight south and drive to Tharu Lodge, a charming luxury retreat on the fringe of a rural village right on the edge of Chitwan National Park. Enjoy an engaging array of activities from here, such as exploring the national park and its buffer zone by Land Rover, stopping at hides, trekking through the forest on guided walks, and taking to the river by boat on the lookout for deer, birds, monkeys, one-horned rhinoceroses, sloth bears, crocodiles and, with luck, Bengal tigers.
A real highlight of staying at Tiger Tops Tharu Lodge is a chance to spend time with its elephants, once used for safaris and now enjoying as natural a life as possible in their early retirement. Joining them on a walk through the jungle as they browse vegetation, perhaps encountering rhinos on the way, or watching them bathe in the river at sunset are unforgettable experiences.
Days 6 — 8
Annapurna views
Fly the short hop from Chitwan to Pokhara, a scenic old city in the green hills of central Nepal. A popular spot for visitors drawn by the lake, historic sites and epic views of the Annapurna Range. Enjoy two nights relaxing at Tiger Mountain Pokhara Lodge, a forward-thinking lodge with close ties to the community.
Activities here range from challenging full-day hikes to culture-focused walks and a chance to learn all about the lodge’s deep-rooted ethos of regenerative tourism. Tours of Pokhara itself and adventurous excursions like paragliding and rafting can also be arranged.
Days 8 — 11
Bardia National Park
As one of Nepal’s lesser visited and best-preserved wilderness areas, the remote Bardia National Park and the chance Karnali Lodge offers to reconnect with nature are well worth the journey, especially with Karnali Lodge as your base.
Accompanied by expert naturalists, explore the park on foot by jeep and raft. Once again, spot a great mix of birdlife, deer and monkeys as you search for one-horned rhinos, wild Asian elephants and leopards. On the river, you have a chance of spotting the extremely rare Gangetic dolphin and prehistoric gharial crocodiles. But the real draw here is tigers, best spotted on full-day drives and during the warmer spring and early summer months when they cool off in the river and waterholes. Back at the lodge, visit the organic gardens, wander local villages and enjoy convivial evenings where the bar is open until the last guest goes to bed.
