Days 1 — 4
Wilderness in the NamibRand
Take an epic light aircraft flight from the capital to the 220,000 hectare NamibRand Reserve, skirting the shore of the Namib Desert’s great sand sea, and your lodge or camp at the fabulous Wolwedans.
Discover the landscape on Bushman walks, while e-biking and on game drives, and take the time to sit back and enjoy the silence. Guides will bring the dunes to life, introducing you to fascinating desert-adapted flora and fauna from oryxes and cheetahs to the enigmatic fairy circles that mark the savannah. Sundowners and candle-lit dinners in the dunes are unforgettable, as are the incredible stars over this protected dark-sky reserve. Day trips to the towering sands and surreal pans of Sossusvlei can also be arranged.
Days 4 — 7
Tracking black rhino in Damaraland
Next, fly north to the rugged hills and dry savannahs of Damaraland’s vast community-owned Palmwag Concession. Your home for the next three nights is the comfortable Desert Rhino Camp.
Here, join trackers as they patrol and protect one of Africa’s largest free-ranging populations of critically endangered desert-adapted black rhinos – a unique and unforgettable wildlife experience, especially so on foot. Other safari activities here include game drives and walks in search of other species such as desert-adapted elephants, zebras, giraffes and – with luck – predators such as hyenas, leopards and lions.
Days 7 — 10
Safari in Etosha
And now for a safari in Ongava Game Reserve, on the border of Etosha National Park. Once a collection of unproductive cattle ranches, it is now a 30,000-hectare haven to large concentrations of wildlife including lions, rhinos, elephants, giraffes and more.
Here, you can track white rhinos on foot, learn about important conservation work, head out on day and night drives, or let the animals come to you as you watch from the hide. You can also venture into Etosha itself on a game drive to see great gatherings of wildlife around precious waterholes at the edge of its shimmering pans.
