Days 1 — 2
Breakfast with giraffes
Begin your discovery of Kenya with a night in a green suburb of Nairobi at the iconic Giraffe Manor, a 1930s mansion set amid a woodland reserve that wouldn’t look out of place in an English shire.
Its most famous residents are a herd of friendly Rothschild’s giraffes who wander up to the windows in search of treats. A breakfast shared with these incredible animals is one of the safari world’s most unforgettable experiences.
Days 2 — 5
Samburu culture and wildlife
In Kenya’s rugged north, the Ewaso Nyiro River gives life to both wildlife and the cattle of the pastoralist Samburu, who give their name to this region. Staying at a lodge owned in partnership with these people, head out on game drives and walking safaris in search of lions, leopards, cheetahs and elephants as well as species only found in northern Kenya, such as Grevy’s zebras, Somali ostriches and the gerenuk antelope.
But the real draw here is a chance to learn about Samburu culture, joining tribe members on camel rides and visiting the home villages of your guides for a genuine personal insight into life here. The sundowners are spectacular too.
Days 5 — 8
A rhino sanctuary
South of Samburu, the rolling hills of Laikipia were once prime ranching land. Today, much of this land has been restored to its wild natural state and is a haven for endangered species. Borana and Lewa, neighbouring private conservancies that have removed their fences to create a beautiful 376 square kilometre sanctuary, are prime examples.
This is arguably the best place in all of Africa to encounter white and black rhinos, which thrive here in numbers seen nowhere else, most thrillingly on foot accompanied by a ranger. You can also explore on game drives or by horseback or mountain bike, and visit local community projects supported by your lodge.
Days 8 — 11
Maasai Mara safari
And now for a safari in one of Africa’s most important conservation and wilderness areas. The instantly recognisable Maasai Mara hosts an astounding diversity and density of wildlife year-round, especially lions, leopards, cheetahs and elephants..
From your luxury safari camp, head out on action-packed game drives and get an introduction to Maasai culture. For an even more spectacular view, take to the sky at dawn in a hot air balloon.
A perfect mix of traditional safari camp and comfort in a quieter corner of the Mara and perfectly located for the wildebeest migration's arrival.
An innovative eco-camp in the Maasai Mara National Reserve offering one of the greenest safari experiences in Kenya.
The romance of safari under cream canvas tents and the style of a bygone era while leading the way in sustainable travel.
