Days 1 — 5
Peace in the Cloud Forests
In the heart of Costa Rica, a short way north of San José and embraced by rainforest clad volcanoes, El Silencio is a blissful retreat at which to unwind. If you can leave the views from your hot tub and yoga deck behind, explore the surrounding jungle on foot, bike and horseback, finding refreshing waterfalls and spotting multi-coloured birdlife. Neighbouring Juan Castro Blanco and the Poas Volcano National Parks are also ripe for adventure and home to fascinating wildlife.
Return for a celebration of Costa Rican cuisine crafted from local ingredients and El Silencio’s organic farm. You can also learn all about the lodge’s commendable conservation and community work from the in-house Sustainability Manager as you plant a tree to mark your stay.
Days 5 — 10
Rainforest hideaway
Drive west to the Osa Peninsula to your eco-lodge in a private 400-hectare nature reserve accessible only by boat. Here you will be immersed in the area's beauty, biodiversity and community, staying in a guest room furnished with beautiful reclaimed hardwood and accented by charming tilework crafted by local artisans.
Head down to one of the beaches for a swim and snorkel to find turtles and eagle rays, or venture a little further by sea kayak and paddleboard. Hike nature trails with a guide to see some of Costa Rica’s famed biodiversity or spend some time at Lotus Wellness where you can enjoy a healing treatment surrounded by the rainforest.
