Days 1 — 4
Utter isolation at Serra Cafema
From the capital, Windhoek, take a spectacular light aircraft flight north across an otherworldly desert landscape to Namibia’s frontier with Angola, marked by the Kunene River. Hidden among the greenery on its southern banks, find Serra Cafema, perhaps the most isolated camp in the world yet a place of remarkable luxury.
Spend your days here exploring the desert and the river on fascinating nature walks, boat trips and quad bike excursions. The camp has a mutually beneficial partnership with the Marienfluss Conservancy, which is owned primarily by the Himba people who you can meet in respectful interactions.
Days 4 — 7
Skeleton Coast Adventure
Fly south to the Kaokoveld and Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp, an oasis of luxury surrounded by an almost lunar landscape of rugged hills and gravel-strewn plains. A band of vegetation marks the course of the rarely flowing Hoanib River, attracting a surprising variety of hardy desert specialists such as elephants, giraffes, oryxes, zebras, lions and brown hyenas, which you can see on drives and walks, learning more about life here from wildlife researchers.
The desolate Skeleton Coast is an epic drive or a short flight away, a fascinating vista or of shipwrecks, seal colonies and dunes.
Days 7 — 11
Wilderness in the NamibRand
Take another epic light aircraft flight south to the 220,000 hectare NamibRand Reserve, skirting the shore of the Namib Desert’s great sand sea, and your lodge or camp at the fabulous Wolwedans.
Discover the landscape on San Bushman walks, e-biking, game drives and take the time to sit back and enjoy the silence. Guides will bring the dunes to life, introducing you to fascinating desert-adapted flora and fauna from oryxes and cheetahs to the enigmatic fairy circles that mark the savannah. Sundowners and candle-lit dinners in the dunes are unforgettable, as are the incredible stars over this protected dark-sky reserve. Day trips to the towering sands and surreal pans of Sossusvlei can also be arranged.
