Days 1 — 4
Mesmerising Marrakesh
From the open-air theatre of the Jemaa El Fna Square to the natural oasis of the palm grove and the legendary Majorelle Garden, Marrakesh’s alluring atmosphere has long attracted visitors. Staying in a grand oasis-like riad on the edge of the old Medina, join a private guide for a selection of fascinating tours and experiences to really get a taste of the ‘Ochre City’ and a millennium of history.
You’ll be led through bustling markets and atmospheric souks, sampling spices, oils and delicacies, meeting local artisans, wandering palaces, mosques and secret gardens. Highlights include the Yves Saint Laurent Museum, a cooking class at a local home, and a motorbike and sidecar tour to an art deco Eden frequented by Charlie Chaplin and John F. Kennedy.
A palatial spot and one of Marrakesh's finest stays for a century, even being named the best hotel in the world on numerous occasions
Immerse yourself in the charm of a bygone era and sumptuous comfort styled with an elegant blend of Moroccan and European design.
Set on a five-hectare estate, stay in a unique and luxurious riad set over three floors showcasing the very best of Moroccan craftsmanship.
Days 4 — 7
High Atlas
Next head south into the Atlas Mountains. A rugged range stretching from Atlantic to Tunisia, river valleys snaking between alpine peaks are dotted with Berber villages, green groves and shepherd’s flocks.
From your luxurious mountain kasbah retreat, head out on guided hikes for the epic views and to meet the locals for a glass of mint tea or simply relax after the bustle of the city and take in your surroundings. You’ll also have the chance to experience the work of the Eve Branson Foundation which supports artisanal training and education projects.
Days 7 — 9
Coastal cool
And now the drive north to the Atlantic Ocean and the handsome old port of Essaouira, tasting biodynamic wines on an organic vineyard on the way. An important anchorage dating back to antiquity, Essaouira’s golden age saw it as the main link between Saharan camel trains from Timbuktu to Europe and the world. In the 20th century it became a favourite hangout of actors, rock stars and hippies.
A local will guide you around the whitewashed medina, from the lively port, around the historic battlements and the narrow streets behind and you’ll also spend a morning at a nearby beach trying your hand at kite, wind or board surfing with an expert coach.
