Days 1 — 3
Buenos Aires
There’s no better introduction to Argentina than Buenos Aires. Handsome neoclassical and art nouveau architecture along tree-lined avenues under glass-clad skyscrapers, cobbled side streets, historic parks and buzzing nightlife. It’s a mixture of distinct neighbourhoods that reflect its past as a country of immigrants – mostly from Spain and Italy but also across Europe and the Middle East that has resulted in something unique.
You’ll be staying in a charming boutique hotel and we’ve included a delectable culinary tour to discover the city through its flavours with your private guide. For those that want to delve into the capital more, we can extend your stay here with experiences tailored to you.
Days 3 — 4
Perito Moreno Glacier
With stunning mountains and bright blue lakes shaped by immense glaciers, the Southern Patagonian Ice Field. This is one of the most beautiful areas in Patagonia and the highlight of many people’s time in Argentina. El Calafate, on the shores of Argentino, is the jumping-off point to witness the immense power of an advancing glacier up close.
Aboard a boat dwarfed by the setting, sail up to Perito Moreno Glacier’s 5km wide face, seeing as huge chunks calve off and crash into the water below. You’ll also get to scale the ice field with crampons and get to appreciate its scale from the catwalks across the lake.
Days 4 — 5
Estancia Cristina
Today take to Argentino Lake's waters once more, this time on a catamaran ferry across to the remote northern shores and into Los Glaciares National Park to Estancia Cristina, a remote setting even by Patagonian standards. Close to the majestic Upsala Glacier and guarded by mountains, this is a spectacular corner of Argentina.
Explore the widescreen wilderness on hikes and horseback rides, rewarded by breathtaking viewpoints. You'll also learn about the history of the century-old working ranch and the region.
Days 5 — 6
Overnight in Calafate
This afternoon, the estancia's catamaran ferry which will take you back across the lake to El Calafate, with the rest of the day at leisure.
Days 6 — 10
Torres del Paine
A scenic drive takes you across the frontier into Chile and Torres del Paine National Park. It’s here that the Andes are at their most spectacular, rising out of bright blue fjords and turquoise lakes through green pampas and immense glaciers to jagged granite summits.
Adventure abounds in this corner of Patagonia. The hiking here is a highlight with dozens of half and full-day expeditions rewarded with unforgettable views. There are also mountain bike trails, horse riding with local gauchos, kayaking on glacial lakes, excursions to learn about the indigenous Aonikenk culture and, for the very lucky, a chance to spot puma in the wild. Return to your beautiful lodge each evening for amazing views and hearty Chilean cuisine.
A striking organic design set on the banks of Lake Sarmiento and just a stone’s throw from the frontier of Torres Del Paine National Park.
Days 10 — 11
Lake Llanquihue
Fly from Punta Arenas north to Puerto Montt in the Chilean Lake District, driving a short distance north Puerto Varas. Set on the shores of the vast Llanquihue Lake in Chile, the picturesque town is known for its stunning natural scenery and traditional German architecture.
You’ll spend a night here at the fabulous Hotel AWA, enjoying views out over the lake to the snow-capped but active Osorno volcano. Relax at the spa or borrow the hotel’s kayaks and bikes to explore.
Days 11 — 14
Chiloé Island
Of Chile’s thousands of islands and islets, Chiloé is the second-largest and perhaps the most fascinating. Its rugged western half, mostly protected by lush national parks, faces the wild Pacific, while the eastern portion shelters rolling pastures and colourful fishing villages.
It has a unique culture resulting from the blend of indigenous Huilliche and Chono people with Spanish missionary influence, isolated for centuries from the rest of Chile and the world. This is most visible in the island’s famous wooden churches and colourful houses built on stilts over the sea, as well as its legends and folklore.
Staying in one of Chiloé's most recent architectural marvels, hike, bike, taste, horse ride, kayak and sail your way through the charming landscapes of Chiloé as meet its welcoming people.
Days 14 — 15
Final night in Santiago
End your South American adventure with a night at a luxury hotel in Chile's capital, Santiago. You can also extend your trip from here, perhaps staying at a vineyard in the countryside outside the city, seeing the creative port of Valparaíso or even venturing north to the Atacama.
